What does garden runoff have to do with ocean health?

Do not redirect runoff onto neighboring property or make excavation and structural changes from a general ocean article.

Why include energy use in an ocean plan?
Litter is visible, but it is not the only pressure on marine systems. NOAA's ocean-acidification explanation describes how the ocean absorbs additional carbon dioxide released by burning fossil fuels. The resulting chemistry increases acidity and reduces the availability of carbonate used by organisms such as corals and shellfish to build hard structures.
Ocean acidification and plastic pollution are different problems. Removing a bag from a shoreline does not undo the chemistry caused by additional carbon dioxide.
Look at a recurring energy demand you can influence: an avoidable journey, unnecessary equipment use or a future replacement purchase. Compare options against your actual needs and local conditions. Do not claim a particular emissions saving without knowing the energy source, usage and assumptions.
Keep changes safe and affordable. Do not compromise necessary heating, cooling, ventilation, refrigeration, medical equipment or access to work and care. Building systems, wiring and structural changes belong with qualified professionals. Household choices can accompany support for cleaner infrastructure; they cannot supply it on their own.
How can seafood shoppers ask a useful question?
If you buy seafood, ask for three pieces of information: the species, its origin and whether it was caught or farmed. Those details give you something to investigate beyond a general word such as "responsible."

Use a relevant current source for the product you are considering. Do not turn a favorable assessment of one fishery into a verdict on every fish bearing the same common name. If the seller cannot identify the product sufficiently, record that limitation rather than inventing a reassuring conclusion.
Environmental sourcing is also a different question from allergies, food handling or consumption advisories. Follow the appropriate health and food-safety guidance for those decisions. A sustainability description does not make an unsuitable food safe for a particular person.
What should you do when you visit the coast?
